I am really looking forward to this. The prices are very fair, especially with the discounts and considering all we will take away from this. See you there!

It’s a pay what you can system. It’s only recommended that you pay $40.
I mean they are feeding you breakfast and lunch, you’re getting to network with tons of great minds in the mid-south and hear content that would probably cost you a couple thousand for a traditional conference.
If you get one good idea out of the entire thing, it’s totally worth the $40. Small investment.

The price is really reasonable for all that you get to take away from the camp! Trust me, I’ve been to many “professional” conferences with price-tags 30 times and much, leaving them thinking “I am glad I didn’t pay for this myself!”

I am attending this one but am really surprised at how “unsocial” this site (as well as launchmemphis) is.
I mean, come on…I follow on twitter to get information and also ask questions. No auto-follow? No follow-up (you can do that with auto-follow)…no centralized place for others to network pre-conference? No “face” to the organization?
I am not saying that is how it should be…I am just surprised at how lax social media pros are when it comes to presenting themselves to the public.
Just my .02 though.

Leo,
Thanks for your comments. In some ways, the long tail is alive and well with all of us. Speaking only for myself and arguably for the other planners, we’re not much of the auto-follow crowd and attempt to keep to self presentation to the public in-check. I find BarCamp, SocialCamp and other ____Camps to be all about the attendees and the community. It’s a tricky balancing act not to promote the planners, organizers, presenters, and sponsors without coming across self promotional or too commercial in a traditional conference sense. We’ll work on redemption here (even if after the event with followup because there will be some instrumental people we don’t know until the day of).
Your idea of centralized point is wonderful, and can be considered for the next event. What do you recommend? We get push back on that as people are in so many different networks.
Thanks again for your comments and I look forward to seeing you tonight and/or tomorrow.

It really bugs me that there are so many names/sponsors/sites to go through to get information about a single event. Do I go to Meetup, Facebook, Social Media Expedition, Memphis Social Camp, Launch Memphis …….. how many of these are the same thing, or run by the same folks, or just marginally related? Let’s just say that for a rookie, it’s a little hard to follow.
And speaking of being a rookie, this posting (”Social Camp is…”) reads well for those of us who are new to this, however, the most recent posting (”Ready, Set…”) is a little intimidating. If you aren’t signed up for Twitter, etc., the suggestion to add all your social media contact info to the back of your business card makes me question if I’ll be in over my head.

Thanks for the note on the business card intimidation. We’ve added a little Clarification snippet to that paragraph. No problem if you don’t have. Everyone there wants to share and get you -In- this new conversation. Looking forward to meeting you there.

I’d like to see the social analytics. Is there anything that’s tracking impressions for the aggregate of social media?

Mr. Allen,
As of yet I haven’t found a good aggregation tool. There are a few noteworthy tools that apply to specific components of social media, though…
For facebook pages, on My Pages, you can view “Insights” for each page. This lets you track impressions not only of pages, but also plays of videos, demographics of visitors, and interactions.
For youtube, its under “About this Video” button under “My account > Videos Favorites Playlists > Manage my Videos”
Twitter is a bit trickier… I think the only good measure is how you fell about your account; I have yet to find a really helpful metric on actual twitter itself, aside from tracking clicks on links via bit.ly
Looking forward to the event! This would be my first time attending a conference like this, and pretty pumped.
Excellent!! Be careful, it can be a bit addictive. Thanks for sharing the excitement. We are too.
